Staying Safe In The Sun
Now it is beginning to get hotter, please read NHS England’s guidelines for staying safe in the sun.
Sunburn increases skin cancer risk, even in the UK on cloudy days. Stay safe by seeking shade between 11am–3pm, covering up, wearing sunglasses, and using sunscreen. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and after swimming or sweating. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight and protect children carefully. Avoid sunbeds, watch for skin changes, and seek medical help for severe sunburn or blistering.

Check Your Moles
We can now book appointments with the Dorset Community Dermatology Service.
Do you have a mole that has changed shape, colour, size or appearance? Is it itchy, painful, bleeding or weeping? Is it a new mole? You may fit the criteria for an appointment with them.
Do you have a mole that has changed shape, colour, size or appearance? Is it itchy, painful, bleeding or weeping? Is it a new mole? You may fit the criteria for an appointment with them.
Their appointments are running every Monday and Friday at The Bridges Medical Centre in Weymouth. Please phone our surgery and if it is fitting, reception will book you in.
Your mole won’t be suitable for them if it is under a tattoo or hair, in or on your ear, and if it is infected. If it has been seen by a clinician here at Royal Manor Health Care, then it won’t be appropriate for them either.
If you are under 18 or the mole is inappropriate for the Dermatology Service, then we can book you in with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or GP here. To speed up this process, we encourage you to send photos to help the clinicians assess you quicker, this can be done via systmconnect through our website.

New Well Leg Club
We would like to share the exciting news that we are looking to start up a new leg club clinic for people whose legs have healed and are now better so we can keep reviewing them to ensure they stay healthy and cured!
We are hoping for this to be opening sometime in June but we will keep you updated.
Medication Reminders
Please remember to order your repeat prescription 5-7 days before you run out to ensure you don’t go without your important medication. We are no longer able to take these requests over the phone, so we do ask that you put them in online, and if you can’t get online, tick off what you need on the paper prescription and hand it in to either of our surgeries.
If you are with Pharmacy2U for your medication, please be aware that if you request your medication late and would like it to go to Boots instead to get it quicker, they will still take as long as Pharmacy2U. Therefore, we would like to highlight the importance of requesting your medication on time.

A reminder that pharmacies have taken over the prescribing of contraceptive pills for birth control reasons only. Because of this, if you request your pill with us at the surgery you may be signposted tothe chemist to get it instead. If you are unsure whether you fit their criteria, please speak with a pharmacist who will book you in for a consultation.
New Member of The Team
We would like to introduce you all to our new member of the team, Practice Nurse Ingrid. She has made the decision to move her career over into primary care and we are so glad she has started her journey with us!
“My name is Ingrid and I have recently joined the Royal Manor Team as a Practice Nurse for Long Term Conditions. Originally from Holland, and after nursing for nearly 3 decades, life has somehow led me to Portland. I am delighted to now work on the island I have come to love so much.
I have 2 sons (24 and 25 years old), a beautiful daughter in-law and 2 Tibetan Terriers who keep me on my toes. Before I joined the surgery I was working as a specialist nurse End of Life and Palliative care – an area of expertise that will always be very close to my heart”
You may see Ingrid at the surgery for your diabetic reviews and soon your asthma ones too!
